By the time the SUV reached the entrance of Rakt Ghat—
the sun was already gone.
Dense fog covered the road ahead while the headlights barely managed to cut through the darkness. The deeper they drove into the forest, the quieter everything became.
Too quiet.
The twisted trees surrounding the road no longer looked natural.
They looked like warnings.
Sharp branches stretched toward the road like clawed fingers while massive rocks stood silently between the trees, almost resembling people watching from the dark.
And then—
they saw it.
The villa.
Standing alone at the edge of the forest.
Massive.
Silent.
Watching.
For a moment—
nobody spoke.
Raghav slowly lowered the car window.
"Aarav..." he whispered.
A pause.
"Bhai sach bata... hum horror movie ke set pe toh nahi aa gaye?"
Vihaan stared at the mansion.
"Forget horror movie..."
He pointed toward the upper windows.
"Mujhe toh lag raha hai abhi Manjulika bhaagti hui bahar aayegi aur "Aami je tomar" pr dance krne lgegi."
"Can you not?" Reyansh muttered while stepping out of the SUV.
Cold air instantly hit his face.
Even he looked uneasy now.
Kabir closed the car door behind him slowly.
Dry leaves cracked beneath his expensive shoes.
"Yeah..." he said quietly while staring at the mansion.
"This place is definitely not giving good vibes."
A pause.
"Something feels off."
The villa stood in complete silence.
No lights.
No sound.
No movement.
And yet—
it somehow felt alive.
Aarav adjusted the strap of his bag and forced a calm smile.
"You guys are overthinking."
Everyone looked at him.
"Seriously," he continued. "Ek toh raat ka time hai. Doosra jungle ke beech mein hain hum. Aur teesri baat—gaon waalon ki horror stories sunke humara dimaag already paranoid ho chuka hai."
Vihaan nodded slowly.
"Actually... he's right."
He looked back toward the forest road.
"Human psychology works like that. Jis tarah se hum kisi cheez ko frame kar dete hain, humara dimaag usi lens se sab dekhne lagta hai."
"Exactly," Aarav replied instantly.
Reyansh crossed his arms.
"So?"
A pause.
"Are we staying here... or finding a hotel?"
"Of course we're staying here," Aarav said immediately.
His eyes shifted toward the villa again.
Almost like he was hypnotized by it.
"Guys, relax. Hum yahan adventure ke liye aaye hain. Do-teen din rukte hain, area explore karte hain... then we leave."
Kabir sighed.
"Fine."
Raghav looked at the villa nervously.
"I already hate this place."

THE VILLA OF BROKEN ECHOES
The giant oak doors groaned loudly as they pushed them open.
The sound echoed through the hallway like a scream trapped inside old wood.
Raghav instantly regretted entering.
Their flashlight beams moved across the darkness slowly.
Dust floated through the cold air.
Furniture covered in white sheets stood silently in corners like faceless people.
Every step echoed.
Every shadow looked wrong.
And despite being abandoned—
the villa looked strangely preserved.
Almost like someone had been taking care of it.
Kabir dropped his bag near the staircase.
"Listen," he sighed tiredly. "Aaj jahan jagah mile wahin so jao. Kal caretaker aayega toh proper rooms dekh lenge."
Vihaan stretched his arms.
"I'm dead tired."
Raghav immediately sat near the center of the living room.
"Haan toh hum sab yahi sote hain."
A pause.
"I'm not sleeping alone."
Vihaan smirked.
"Darr gaya?"
"Bilkul darr gaya."
Everyone laughed softly except Aarav.
He was too busy observing the villa.
The walls.
The paintings.
The staircase.
Like he was studying the place instead of visiting it.
Finally he looked toward Raghav.
"Raghav... these are just urban legends."
His tone was calm.
"You're a Computer Science student. Hacker ho. Tumhe ghosts aur curses pe believe nahi karna chahiye."
"Exactly," Vihaan added while lying down on the dusty couch.
"Humein EMF readings aur logic ko priority deni chahiye, na ki logon ki suni-sunai baaton ko. Ab so jao sab"
Reyansh leaned back against the wall silently.
But unlike the others—
his eyes kept drifting toward the long dark corridor beside the staircase.
Something about that corridor bothered him.
A lot.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Hours passed.
The forest outside became quieter.
The silence pressing against the windows felt heavy now.
Almost suffocating.
One by one—
they all fell asleep inside the massive living room.
The villa remained awake.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
THE FIRST MORNING
The next morning felt...
Different.
Cold air filled the house.
Not normal cold.
This felt Unusual.
Unnatural.
Reyansh slowly opened his eyes first.
His throat felt dry.
And the silence around him—
felt different.
He carefully stepped over a sleeping Raghav and walked toward the massive front door.
The wooden floor creaked beneath his feet.
Everything inside the villa was still.
Too still.
Reyansh grabbed the door handle slowly.
Then pulled it open.
He expected to see:
The forest.
Morning sunlight.
Their SUV.
Instead—
his body froze instantly.
His heartbeat stopped.
And for the first time in years—
Reyansh Sinha felt genuine fear.
Because the world outside...
had changed.
